the world is my stage... who's my audience?

last week we talked about getting on the same page with our audience. so it only makes sense that we need to understand who our audience is. depending on who your audience is, your communication changes. for example, if i'm talking with my mom about what i've been up to, i'm going to talk slower, not use as much slang and explain byu terminology as i tell her about my week. but if im talking with a group of friends about what has been going on, we are all going to be trying to talk over each other in a language that probably wouldnt make a lot of sense to someone who wasnt used to the way we talk. as my audience changes, i change my language, my tone, explinations i give, and the topic that i'm talking about. a really obvious example of the importance of know your audience is when you are talking to a person in a language they dont know. if you werent aware of the fact that your audience didnt speek english, you would have a hard time communicating with them.

Ha ha....I use slang and BYU lingo when I talk to my mom....and she often has no idea what I'm saying. Good thoughts!

I really liked how you mentioned you would speak slower when talking about something the other person didn't know about. It's not just adjusting the words, it's the speed too!

I totally agree with your points on understanding your audience. I love what you said about communicating with your mom, my mom likes to pretend she knows what I'm talking about when i say it, but much later asks me what i meant!

Language can certainly be a barrrier, it depends who your talking to for sure. a lot goes into effective writing!
